Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness that we naturally drift in and out of all day. It is a heightened state of awareness in which people often feel more relaxed and are more open to suggestions. Experiences vary from person to person and each person can have a different experience in each hypnosis session. Anyone can be hypnotised if they want to be. Some people simply enjoy the relaxed state and do not recognise that they are in fact hypnotised. At all times you are in control of yourself, you will not do something that is against your moral code and you can become immediately alert and respond to external situations if necessary.
Hypnotherapy induces and controls the hypnosis state to use it to your benefit. The relaxed state is in itself pleasurable and enjoyable and yet it is a very powerful technique to achieve goals that you haven't been able to achieve in other ways. By using suggestions and personalised key words we agree before the hypnosis session, I can help you access powerful unconscious resources that can enable you to make changes you were not able to consciously. This is how many people find it easier to lose weight or give up smoking after years of failed attempts using other methods.
I use Ericksonian Hypnotherapy which is a permissive style using rapport and indirect suggestions and is based on the work of the eminent therapist Milton Erickson. I use this in combination with other techniques including Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP). NLP is the study of what works in thinking, language and behaviour. By understanding how our nervous system and thinking works (neuro) in combination with how we use language and communication (linguistic) and our patterns of behaviour and habits (programming), we are able to make changes quickly and easily.
